Almost Done…

As I type this, I’m about one chapter away from finishing the first draft of Much Ado about Muesli, book 9 of my Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat series. I probably could have already finished it, but this past week, between recovering from surgery (though at my follow-up appointment they said I’m recovering better than anticipated), weird weather fluctuations, and changes in the schedules of my husband and the kid who lives with us, I really have not been able to focus as much as I would have liked. I have managed to write about 2000 words most days, though I had a couple of days where it was only about 1000. But progress is progress.

Right now, I’m procrastinating on finishing partly because I’m not quite sure how the book ends. I mean, I know what *happens* at the end… I just don’t know the actual words to write to make it sound like the ending of the story. Which, honestly, is a problem with a lot of my books. I know what happens but not how to put it into words, with the result that some books end rather abruptly.

The other reason I’m procrastinating, though, is that while I’m always proud of finishing a first draft, it’s also always a little bittersweet. I’ve spent weeks immersed in the characters’ world, and in their minds since I write first-person narration, and I never really want to say goodbye. Even though I know I’ll be writing these characters again soon, because I have one more definite book planned in RWDEM, and depending on what the main characters throw my way, there might be even more than that, this will be the end of *this* book.

But I will be finishing it within the next day or so, because I can only procrastinate so long before the characters start getting pissy with me.

Even though I’m still working on the first draft, I already have a cover for Much Ado about Muesli, and the Kindle preorder is live though the book won’t be released until January 8, 2026. Here’s the cover.
